12) Importance of Strong Institution

Today, in the SCSH class, we discussed SDG 16: the need for strong institutions to achieve peaceful and inclusive societies. The class was very informative and made us reflect a lot. Our teacher, Sir Ali, led the discussion with some interesting questions, which really put all of us into deep thought about our role in society.

A key moment in class was when Sir Ali asked us, “Why do we need to find resources on earth?” This simple question meant more than I first realized. The answer, as Sir Ali explained, was about survival. In today’s world, where resources are limited and populations keep increasing, finding and managing resources is very important for both people and the planet to stay healthy. What struck me most was the point made by Sir Ali: water is the most valuable resource on earth. It's easy to forget how important water is in our daily lives, but we cannot live without it. His talk made me reflect on the rising global water problems and how important it is to take care of and use water wisely.

In a more reflective part of the lecture, Sir Ali compared the university to a factory. He explained that universities create graduates, who are essentially the future stewards of society and the environment. This comparison really struck me because it made me realize the larger responsibility we, as students, carry. The knowledge and skills we pick up in university are not meant for personal aggrandizement but are to arm us with the wherewithal to find solutions to real-world problems, especially those to do with sustainability and societal welfare. Today's class remind me strongly that the role which we as students shall take after graduation has direct effect on the world. This just motivated me to think more critically about how I could contribute toward the building of stronger institutions and using resources in a responsible way for the future.
